• One Trainer’s Weight Loss Journey – Day 20

Victories today.  Yesterday was rough but today was much better.  For the first time in a long time I ran for a little.  When I first started the exercise part of my journey what I failed to tell was how much my body hurt just trying to move this much weight.  Each time I have gone walking my feet have done better.  They still hurt when I walk but today was the first time my toes didn’t have a numbness sensation when I finished 30 minutes.  Several times it was all I could do to push through and walk anyway.  My feet don’t give me trouble except when I weigh more than I should.  They have been screaming every time I walk on them.  Running has not even been an option until today.  I pulled in at Enterprise South at 7:55pm to walk.  The park ranger told me I only had 30 minutes to which I responded that is all I need.  When the park is close to closing I prefer to park close to the information center and walk up the road where the traffic passes on one side and pedestrians have the other lane.  Away I went walking up the gradual incline.  As I was nearing the halfway point where I would turn around I pondered whether I could handle running a little, after all it would be downhill.  I started with a very slow jog to see how far I could go before I needed to walk.  Considering it had been a year since I have run at all I was pleased.  It felt great to run/jog.  I wish I had gotten there earlier so I could have spent more time.  Tomorrow is a new day.

Next week I am going to tweak my exercise goal.  Last week and this week I have taken two days for strength training with a little cardio mixed in and cardio (walking) to get my heart rate up on the other days.  Next week the new plan will be Sunday and Wednesday upper body strength, Monday and Thursday lower body strength, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday cardio.  Each strength day will include core and flexibility work as well.  I will continue to keep the minimum 30 minutes for the workouts.  After two weeks I will evaluate how my body is beginning to respond to the changes.
